How to Redeem Credit Card points for Hyatt Hotel stays

If you are searching for a great way to redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you MUST become familiar with the World of Hyatt Loyalty program. It is a favorite for several reasons which I will go through in detail in this post. The World of Hyatt owns top end all-inclusive properties such as Miraval Resorts as well as hotels for budget conscious families including Hyatt Place and Hyatt House. They also partner with other programs, such as Under Canvas and Mr. and Mrs. Smith to give more unique experiences domestically and globally.

Why is the World of Hyatt Loyalty Program a favorite among Points and Miles Enthusiasts?

Outsized Value for your points

The main reason the World of Hyatt Loyalty program is popular is the outsized value you can get for your points. What does that mean? When redeeming credit card points for travel, typically you want to transfer to programs to make your points worth more than the 1 cent/point you get from cashing them out.

Here are some options for redeeming Chase Ultimate Rewards

  • You can cash out your points for $0.01/point – making 20,000 points value at $200.
  • If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card you can book through the Chase Travel portal for $0.0125/point – making that same 20,000 points worth $250.
  • If you hold the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card you can also transfer points to airline partners and get more value – this can range from $0.02-$0.10/point – making your 20,000 points worth $400 up to $2,000.
    • These are common transfer point redemptions for other transferable currency cards
  • If you transfer to Hyatt, you can generally get $0.018 and even up to $0.04-0.07/point, making 20,000 points valued at $360-$1,400. Although this is not as high as airline redemptions, this is really one of the top options for hotel stays.

Miraval Berkshires Resort and Spa

Miraval Berkshires Resort and Spa is a wellness focused, adults only all-inclusive resort. Since it includes meals in the stay a single occupancy room mid-week in August has a cash price of $1250 with taxes and fee and the points price is 50,000 points. This is a value of $0.025/point. There are no additional resort fees, so your entire stay can be covered with points. I have just been to Miraval for a spa day and it was a FANTASTIC experience. They offer so many activities and the food and service is topnotch.

Park Hyatt – New York City for the Macy’s Parade

One way to get extremely outsized value is to book when the cash prices are high, due to an event in the area and room prices are totally out of budget! (Think Taylor Swift concerts or huge sporting events) If our family wanted to stay in NYC for the Macy’s parade over Thanksgiving, it would cost ~$1900/night with taxes and fees. The points price is 45,000 points. This is a value of $0.042/point!

Generous cancellation policy

A great thing about points bookings with World of Hyatt hotels their cancellation policies – and you can typically get all your points back without a penalty, as long as you cancel within the window defined when booking.

Published Award Chart

What helps set World of Hyatt apart is their award chart. Each hotel is assigned a category (1-8) which has a set amount of points for off-peak, standard, and peak pricing. The award chart allows you to calculate the exact number of points you need to book a stay.

Each hotel also has a calendar that can be viewed 13 months out to see what days are assigned Off-peak, Standard and Peak prices. Here is the August 2025 points calendar for Park Hyatt NYC.

Unique Perks and Hotel Loyalty Status

As a member of the World of Hyatt Loyalty program, you are enrolled in some unique ways to earn free night stays, suite upgrades, club access and more.

Brand Explorer – earn a free category 1-4 certificate

As a member of the World of Hyatt Loyalty program, you are automatically entered into the “Brand Explorer Award” program. For every 5 unique Hyatt brands you spend a night, you earn a free night certificate (category 1-4). It is like a punch card for all the Hyatt brands! It does not reset, so you can slowly work towards a free night certificate.

Milestone Rewards – starting at 20 nights

As you stay at Hyatt hotels you earn milestone rewards starting at 20 nights, and every 10 additional nights add another milestone reward to your account. Milestone rewards can be shared – so if you are not using them before they expire – you can transfer them to a friend’s account. Nights counting towards a milestone reward reset every year on January 1. The awards are good from the time of issuance to the end of February the following year. Your member account page does a great job of showing your progress towards these rewards.

Examples of what you can earn are club access awards, free night certificates, suite upgrades and Guest of Honor certificates, which allow you to experience the top-tier elite status for your stay.

Elite Status

If you plan to stay at a fair number of hotels in the calendar year, focusing on Hyatt hotels can really pay off since earning elite status is attainable. When you achieve elite status, you will keep status through the end of the year you earned it, the entire following year and through February of the next year. For example if you earn the top-tier Globalist status in July 2025, you will have it through February 2027.

At just 10 nights per year, you get Discoverist Status which sets you up for 2:00pm late check-out where available. The most valuable tier is Globalist, earned after 60 nights per year and includes room upgrades, free breakfast or club access, and free parking on award stays. You also receive Gift of Honors awards which you can give to family or friends so they can experience Globalist status for their upcoming Hyatt stay.

How to Redeem Points for Hyatt stays

You will need to have a World of Hyatt member number to transfer your points from Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt. The names must match between your Chase/Bilt and Hyatt accounts.

Determine how many points you will need to transfer by getting as far as you can in the hotel booking process. There might be terminology like ‘From 23,000 points’, so you cannot assume that each night has the same points price. Arrive at the page where you see the total points needed to complete the booking. You can also look at the each night individually, or at the award calendar.

Open your Chase Ultimate Rewards account and navigate to your Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred account.

Select Transfer to points to partners and find Hyatt.

Type in the amount of points you want to transfer. Try to transfer all the points you need at once, otherwise you run the risk of getting flagged for suspicious activity – delaying the points arrival to your Hyatt account.

Open your Hyatt account, when you see the points are there go ahead a proceed with the booking.

Double check the cancellation policy.

Complete your hotel booking and have a wonderful trip!

Overall, the World of Hyatt has some of the best redemption options out there to stretch your points and enjoy some luxury and savings while you travel.
